This is funny. I'm at a library computer, and I search engined my name like I always do to get to my blog quickly on public computers.
Guess what came up?
On this website: http://kevinrenick.com/News.php
(which is the website of musician Kevin Renick), my blog was mentioned! Why? Oh, because a while back I quoted the lyrics to his song, "Up in the Air," saying that they pretty much described my life. Well, whoever runs his website must have googled his name and my blog must have popped up!
Why am I excited about this? Because it's the first bit of publicity for my blog! Not that I want it to become famous or anything (Julie & Julia style), it's just neat to see that people are actually looking at it.
Here's what was actually said about my blog on the website, in case you don't want to scroll down that far. It's not much, really, but it's something:
--Two more blogs feature the lyrics to "Up in the Air" and the author's favorable comment. First up is Holly Gruntner's personal take: http://staygoldponyboy88.blogspot.com/2010/06/up-in-air.html You rule, Holly!

Night Life Is the Life
I've been busy, my dear friends. Holly Lynn Gruntner has officially been living the night life, and while it is undoubtably exciting, it seems that lately I've been doing nothing but sleeping and working. Yesterday I dusted about a million shelves, and then sprayed them with a cleaner that somehow turned my fingertips white. The day before yesterday I spent my entire seven and a half hour shift in the same two makeup aisles, walking back and forth with lipstick and eyeshadow until I found their spots in the display.
You know what else I've been doing? Writing.
I began a new story on Sunday, and I've been working on it every day since. I don't want to speak too soon, but I think that this one might actually make it. I've always wanted to be able to stick my nose in the air and proclaim to the world, "I'm writing a novel!" My dream may come true, folks.
I think I'll give you an excerpt. This is a snippet currently near the beginning of the story, although it is certainly subject to change, especially since I'm not entirely sure what exactly my story is going to be about yet. I'm just making it up as I go along, which is one part exhilerating and five parts annoying.
Here you go:
I walkied as I left the break room: “This is Holly. I’m back from my fifteen and swinging through electronics.” Electronics was an important guest service area for Target. Whenever a team member began work for the day or returned from a break, they were supposed to walk through the department and ask any guest they saw if they needed help finding something. It kept our guest service ratings in the green, our GPS’s and TV’s selling, and our bodies circulating. Our red shirts radiated availability like monkeys in estrous.

That Side of Paradise
Here's something ironic:
About a month ago, I was taking a quiz for my Intro. to Lit. class. I hadn't studied as much as I should have, so I was stuck on a few questions. In desperation, I wrote one of my favorite quotes in the margin: "Stop using so many exclamation points. It's like you're laughing at your own joke." That's a quote by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Why is this ironic?
Because I was thinking about it the other day while lying in bed reading my "History for Every Day" book. Just then, I discovered that yesterday (December 21st) was the anniversary of F. Scott Fitzgerald's death.
Now that's ironic.
In light of this irony (which I'm sure F. Scott himself would have appreciated), I have decided that the next book I read will be "This Side of Paradise."
"This Side of Paradise" (wow I'm tired of these quotation marks) is F. Scott's first novel, and was a big success when it came out. Best of all, he started writing it when he was just twenty-one. That's two years older than me. And while I can't see myself having time to start a novel while in college, I think it'll be an inspirational read.
This entry strikes me as rather pompous (perhaps it's the quotation marks?)
I don't think I'm pompous, so I won't let it bother me. Pip pip.
